Senior Oracle Data Warehouse DBA
Job Description:
Wireless Generation’s Information Technology (IT) team combines talent, quality and creativity to produce a great customer experience in delivering world-class educational solutions. IT seeks a forward-thinking Oracle Data Warehouse DBA who is passionate about delivering a quality product and enjoys working closely with business partners on both strategic and tactical challenges.
Responsibilities of the Senior Oracle Data Warehouse DBA - Operations:
Test, validate and implement performance and resource optimization improvements in consultation with data warehouse development team
Maintain development and production environments. Monitor and maintain database stability, security and performance of the data warehouse environment
Resolve problems in data warehouse bottleneck areas with approaches to wait event tuning and SQL tuning
Monitor scheduled batch jobs and queues including any adhoc activities: run command line, shell scripts, SQLs, run scripts, monitor queues, connect to various servers and verify the results
Evolve the data warehouse environment within the organization, including better information delivery mechanisms and methodologies
Participate in on-call for production databases - daily maintenance, monitoring, problem resolution and internal customer/dev support
Responsibilities of the Senior Oracle Data Warehouse DBA - Engineering:
Review, design and develop data models in conjunction with the application development teams
Design, develop, and implement Oracle data warehouse instances for the development and production environments
Provide advice to Software Engineers on the effective use of Oracle features; provide advice on troubleshooting, exception processing needs and other data management issues
Design logical data models, physical database structures, DDL and DML scripts as required
Database performance tuning - optimizing databases for performance and scale
Requirements of the Senior Oracle Data Warehouse DBA:
Bachelor or graduate degree in computer science (or related field) plus a minimum of 5 years experience in a data warehouse environment
Strong background in data warehouse concepts / strategies
Supervises the technical implementation of the data warehouse and oversees hardware/ software configuration
Working knowledge of Oracle DBA best practices (e.g., schema management, index optimization, and use of hints)
Capacity monitoring and management capabilities
Expert knowledge in Dimensional Modeling
Preferred Qualifications for the Senior Oracle Data Warehouse DBA
Strong query and database tuning skills
Extensive UNIX shell scripting, PLSQL, and SQL skills
Highly motivated to solve problems efficiently
Fast troubleshooting and resolution skills
Extensive experience with very large data warehousing systems
Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities
Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with DBA and application teams
Excellent communication and presentation skills
