This person will acquire new books and manage revisions for the Developmental Reading list. The position is responsible for managing all phases of planning and development of books on the list including applying an understanding of market conditions and trends to acquisitions and revisions, identifying and recruiting authors, negotiating contracts, managing multiple deadlines, directing the commissioning and analysis of reviews and in turn managing the direction of authors' efforts, preparing manuscripts for production, and working with other departments to ensure competitive packaging, sales tools, media components, and marketing. Assess competition by analyzing their contents and capabilities and by commissioning reviews, arranging focus groups, and attending major conferences, as appropriate. Monitor market trends (through campus travel and other means).
BA/BS required. This position also requires 3-5 years of college textbook publishing experience. Some combination of sales and editorial (or marketing) experience is ideal. Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as superior organizational skills needed to manage a variety of projects and aspects of the job in a timely manner.
