Documentation Manager/Editor



Job Description:

Wireless Generation is building a next generation data store and web service infrastructure that will empower a new ecosystem of innovative, data-driven, education-focused applications. We seek a Documentation Manager/Editor to support publications about this ecosystem for an application development community, IT administrators, and an end-user base of educators and school administrators.
The Documentation Manager/Editor will work closely with Product Development, Product Management, and other stakeholders to set the overall direction for product documentation, including API documentation, deployment guides, and online help.


Responsibilities of the Documentation Manager/Editor:

  • Overseeing the design, development, and deployment of documentation that conforms to established standards and practices
  • Managing, mentoring, and guiding a team of technical writers
  • Formatting and editing user materials, technical documentation, and wiki pages to promote clarity, accuracy, and consistent style 
  • Curating internal and customer-facing documentation so it can be accessed easily by stakeholders
  • Ensuring timely delivery of documentation in an Agile product lifecycle
  • Resolving documentation issues reported by customers, quality assurance, and field personnel
  • Working closely with product management and product development to ensure documentation is accurate and appropriate to the needs of our customers

    Requirements of the Documentation Manager/Editor:

  • Four-year degree in Technical Communications, Computer Science, or a related field, followed by at least five years of professional experience managing writers, technical publications, and end-user documentation
  • Strong editorial, communication, and management skills
  • Experience creating and editing all forms of user assistance materials, including printed product documentation, online help, UI text, knowledge base articles, etc. (Candidates must complete a writing/editing test as part of the application process.)
  • Experience documenting and editing developer and IT-facing materials, including data dictionaries, API specifications, and technical how-to guides 
  • Knowledge of source code documentation tools, such as Javadoc and Sphinx, as well as a rudimentary ability to read and understand source code in languages such as Java, C#, and/or Python
  • Extensive experience with help development kits, publication management tools, and wiki technologies a must; experience with HTML programming a plus 
  • Experience collaborating with Software Development teams and subject matter experts to create effective product documentation
