Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking highly-qualified applicants for the position of Media Director with the Communications Department. Description: The Media Director will assist the Communications Director in running HRWs global Communications Department, with a particular emphasis on marketing HRW staff and products to broadcast, print and online media outlets. S/he will oversee the expansion of HRWs web presence, and will also directly supervise several Communications department team members. The Media Director will pitch finished multimedia products, raw video and audio footage, reports and story ideas to broadcast, online and print venues, and will work with Communications and Program staff to identify projects and products likely to interest broadcasters and other editors. S/he will identify and cultivate contacts among broadcasters, print and online outlets in the US and abroad, and develop media partners to showcase HRWs work. S/he will take the lead in identifying radio and television opportunities for HRW staff, booking interviews and overseeing the training of staff making electronic media appearances. The successful candidate must be able to juggle multiple tasks and work collegially in a demanding, fast-paced, and diverse professional environment independently, but also as a member of a team. S/he should have excellent written and verbal communications skills in English; managerial experience; existing media contacts and a track record of pitching to broadcast and other media. Fluency in other languages is desirable.
