AutoReqId 16344BR Job or Campus Folder Experimental Physicist Job Description ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company has immediate openings for scientists at all career stages in the Engineering Physics Section at its Corporate Strategic Research Laboratories located in Annandale, New Jersey. The Engineering Physics Section is a multidisciplinary group of scientists conducting fundamental research in physics and computational sciences pertaining to the needs of the energy industry with particular focus in the areas of granular physics, flow in porous media, wave propagation, solid-fluid interactions, and rock deformation and failure. The Section is highly collaborative between experimentalists and theorists in conjunction with computational scientists. Successful candidates will be expected to become scientific leaders in creating and utilizing advanced experimental techniques to develop the deep conceptual understanding of physical phenomena needed to address technical challenges in the energy industry.
The applicant should have a Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, Geosciences or a related field. Candidates should have experience in design and construction of experiments, sample characterization and data analysis. Interests in one or more of the following areas are advantageous: soft-matter physics, granular physics, fluid dynamics, pattern formation, nonlinear dynamics, micro fluidics, wave phenomena, rock/soil mechanics, electrodynamics, scattering, physical chemistry and experimental geophysics. Excellent oral and written presentation skills, along with a strong record of publications and presentations, commensurate with career stage, are required. The ability of the candidate to grow into new science areas will be a critical characteristic, as will the ability to work across disciplines and organizations.
